The Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge is south of U.S. Route 1 near Calais, Maine. From Route 1, follow signs to the refuge headquarters, about 3 miles south on Charlotte Road. It also has a unit near Cobscook Bay State Park, 20 miles east of Machias. The area supports many wildlife species, and it is common to see nesting Bald Eagles in both the Baring .

Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge is one of the northernmost National Wildlife Refuges in the Atlantic Flyway, a migratory route that follows the eastern coast of North America.

The refuge provides important feeding and nesting habitat for many bird species, including waterfowl, wading birds, shorebirds, upland game birds, songbirds, and birds. Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge consists of nea acres of federally protected lands in eastern Maine.

The refuge's landscape is varied, with rolling hills, large ledge outcrops, streams, lakes, bogs, and marshes. A northern hardwood forest of aspen, maple, birch, spruce and fir dominates the upland.

Moosehorn NWR maintains 37 freshwater impoundments for waterfowl and wading birds. Many of the impoundments offer exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities and are accessible by the refuge trail system.

In addition to the refuge’s roads and trails, there are two wildlife viewing platforms that can be accessed from the Charlotte Road. The Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, a nature preserve, was established in as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife.
